Astro Avalanche's future is most likely over jumps but he will get at least one more chance on the flat in the Queensland Cup at Eagle Farm.
The former Irish stayer was the catalyst for one of the most spectacular distance performances in Sydney for a long time when he led the Stayers' Cup by at least 100 metres, eventually being run down by Destiny's Kiss to be beaten half a length.
Saturday's Listed Queensland Cup is also over 3200 metres and the Sam Kavanagh-trained gelding is among 18 entries for the race.
His Stayers' Cup run was a return to his Irish roots, with Kavanagh instructing apprentice Taylor Marshall to get him to the lead and let him roll along at his own pace.
Kavanagh, who has returned to Europe this week looking for a feature race stayer, said genetic tests suggested Astro Avalanche should be a hurdler.
He said he was a very slow horse and one-paced with his best chance to win being left alone in front.
"He recovered from the Rosehill race really well," Kavanagh said.
"The four weeks between runs should be no problem. He is obviously a stayer but has taken a while to learn what it's about here."
Brayroan, winner of Saturday's Caloundra Cup, is also among the Cup entries as is Mr O'Ceirin despite finishing 14 lengths ninth at the Sunshine Coast.
New Zealander Military Move, winner of the Toowoomba Cup, has been nominated along with Tattersall's Cup winner The Inventor.
Kavanagh has nominated Lady Of Harrods for the Listed Ascot Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm and a race over the same distance at Rosehill.
There were 16 entries for the Eagle Farm sprint with the meeting bringing the curtain down on the Brisbane winter carnival.
