Aigles on road to recovery

Thursday 3 July 2014, 9:34am

French star Cirrus Des Aigles continues to recover well after his scare on Derby Day at Epsom with trainer Corine Barande-Barbe optimistic the popular gelding can return for an autumn campaign.

As soon as the eight-year-old had passed the post for his sixth Group One win in the Coronation Cup, there was alarm when he pulled up lame and jockey Christophe Soumillon jumped off.

He was able to walk soundly soon after and subsequent X-rays revealed there to be no lasting damage.

"Everything is good, he's doing well," Barande-Barbe said.

"We were advised for him to leave him to rest for six weeks, and that's what he's doing. He just goes out to eat some grass and relax.

"He should come back into training at the end of July and hopefully he will be able to run at the end of September, maybe at the Arc meeting."

As geldings are not allowed to contest the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Cirrus Des Aigles has made the Group Two Prix Dollar his own, winning it three times in the past four years.
