Consistency is his strength but Le Bonsir needs to overcome two hoodoos to win Saturday's Group Three Monash Stakes at Caulfield.
The Mick Price-trained sprinter has finished in the first five at 10 of his last 12 starts and been within 2-1/2 lengths of the winner at his last five outings.
But Le Bonsir has not won in four attempts on his home track while the Group One-placed six-year-old is winless in 12 starts on dead and slow ground.
Track manager Jason Kerr posted a slow rating for Caulfield on Thursday with predicted showers likely to prevent the course improving beyond the dead range.
Punters think Le Bonsir can defy the statistics, backing him from $6 into $5.50, and Price says the gelding will have every chance to score his first win since his Listed success at Moonee Valley in September last year.
Price says barrier two is the perfect draw for Le Bonsir with the likely leaders, the Robbie Laing-trained duo Lord Of The Sky and Mr Make Believe, to come from the inside and outside gates in the nine-horse field.
"There's speed inside him in barrier one and there's speed outside him with Mr Make Believe so that will help him," Price said.
"He'll get the run of the race and he'll go very well in a race like this."
Jockey Daniel Moor has the task of finding the perfect position for Le Bonsir early in the Monash Stakes.
Price has used Moor regularly in recent times. The trainer said Moor's vigorous style suited many of his horses.
Lord Of The Sky has eased from $2.10 to $2.30 in the TAB's early Monash Stakes market but holds favouritism despite the good backing for the Adelaide sprinter Riziz, who has firmed from $8 to $5.
Caulfield trainers won seven editions of the Monash Stakes between 2000 and 2010 before Mark Young, Darren Weir and David Hayes claimed the last three renewals.
