Robert Smerdon abandoned plans to run Bloomingdale Miss in one Group Three feature but the mare could earn a shot at another with a strong performance at Saturday's Caulfield meeting.
Smerdon decided against entering Bloomingdale Miss in the Monash Stakes, preferring to run the four-year-old against her own sex in the BMW Melbourne Handicap (1200m).
Bloomingdale Miss finished midfield in her two runs in stakes class as a three-year-old but Smerdon has not given up on the rising five-year-old securing valuable black type.
"She's won three races in town but she's been a bit short of stakes grade in the past," Smerdon said.
"We were going to run in the Monash but her form didn't warrant it but if she went well on Saturday, then we'll look at the Bletchingly (Stakes) for her."
Bloomingdale Miss finished last in a trial at Cranbourne but improved on that hit-out when finishing well over 1000m at Moonee Valley on June 21.
Smerdon says the likely soft conditions and Caulfield's usual pattern late in the day give Bloomingdale Miss the chance to add to her two previous wins on her home track.
"I'd love it to rain before Saturday because she's a real Shamardal and loves the wet," Smerdon said.
"I'd think it will be the typical Caulfield track with on-pacers winning early before the swoopers are able to finish off late in the day, which will help her."
Daniel Moor will partner Bloomingdale Miss, a $6.50 chance in early betting.
Meanwhile, Smerdon confirmed smart mare Elite Elle has run her last race.
Connections decided to retire Elite Elle after a disappointing effort at Moonee Valley last month.
Elite Elle won at Listed level earlier in her career when part of the Tony Vasil stable before finishing her career with seven wins from 24 starts.
She will be mated with Arrowfield Stud stallion Smart Missile during the breeding season.
