Speedy Adelaide filly Thiamandi defied a distance query at Caulfield to post another lucrative city win on Saturday.
The Lloyd Kennewell-trained three-year-old, who was purchased for $10,000 as a yearling, was backing up in The Cove Hotel Handicap (1100m) after winning over 1000m in Adelaide last Saturday.
The filly's four previous wins had come at 1000m or less but after sitting outside the leader Maroon Bay, Thiamandi ($9) ran the distance out to win by two lengths over Jemerica ($16) with three-quarters of a length to Maroon Bay ($10) third.
"That was my biggest doubt, the 1100 metres," jockey Joe Bowditch said.
"But it was good to see her win over that distance."
Kennewell targeted Saturday's race because of the Super VOBIS bonus money on offer for the filly and also because the sprinter had run well before when backing up.
Her win was her fifth from 16 starts including victories at Moonee Valley, Morphettville Parks and took her earnings past $200,000.
Kennewell said Thiamandi would likely run next in the Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on July 26.
Bowditch has ridden Thiamandi in all her wins and said the filly was honest.
"She hasn't got the greatest ability but she just tries for you every time," he said.
