Jockey Damian Browne continued his great association with veteran sprinter Excellantes when they combined to win at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Excellantes, now rising seven years old, scored his 10th win in the Listed Ascot Handicap (1200m) and Browne has been aboard him for eight of those victories.
Another superb Browne ride was the catalyst for the win as he never left the fence with Excellantes ($7) scoring by three quarters of a length to Mr Favulous ($12).
Trainer Rob Heathcote said Excellantes would probably go to the spelling paddock with the aim of returning him for the Brisbane summer sprint series.
"He has won two Listed races this winter," Heathcote said.
"It is his go Group Three and Listed races. He is a length or two off the really good ones.
Excellantes lifted his prize money to $625,000 with his win.
"We own his mother Cantantes and my wife is a major shareholder in him so he has been great for us," said Heathcote, who will head off next week on a three weeks holiday in Vietnam.
He was also full of praise for Browne's ride.
"I will give him a nine for that ride. There aren't many better and Damian knows this horse inside out," Heathcote said.
Browne said Excellantes was a good horse to ride in Listed type races.
"That is his go because he can get into a position on the pace and he does try hard. But any higher grade tests him," Browne said.
Meanwhile, promising Scone galloper Limehills confirmed the boom on him by breaking his maiden status in the $100,000 Brisbane Town Plate (1400m).
Limehills came from the outside alley to beat Homehill) by 2-3/4 lengths with Yeager ($6.50) a short neck back in third place.
