After the longest lay-off of her career, Group One-winning jockey Clare Lindop is looking forward to her return from injury at Morphettville on Wednesday.

And with a new season approaching, Lindop is keen to get back into it with the view to challenging for next season's Adelaide jockeys' premiership.

The winner of four Group One races, Lindop has been off the scene since she suffered 15 broken ribs and a fractured collarbone in a race fall on Adelaide Cup day in March.

She has four rides at Wednesday's meeting after weighing up the right time to return.

"You don't want to go into races and not be capable of doing the right thing for the owners and trainers you are riding for. It's a fine line," Lindop said.

"I've got to be as fit as I can to make sure I can do the right thing, but at the same time I've wanted to get back out there as well.

"I was tempted to jump on Nearest To Pin on Saturday. But the last thing I want to do is jump on a horse and not be able to do it justice in the finish."

Nearest To Pin won the Listed Victorian Sprint Final at Flemington.

"I'm still probably a bit heavier than what I need to be and probably not as strong as I can be, but I feel like I can't get much fitter other than getting back into racing," Lindop said.

Lindop said returning on Wednesday was a nice way to ease back into it and a winner would be ideal.

"But I'm just happy to be actually back and I think the winners will come," she said.

Lindop is stable rider for Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas but Jason Holder will ride their three runners on Wednesday as he pursues the premiership.

Holder has been doing the bulk of the riding for the stable in Lindop's absence and is just 2-1/2 wins behind Dom Tourneur.

"I'm really supportive of Jason. "He's been terrific for our stable," Lindop said.

Lindop, twice a winner of the Adelaide premiership, has set her sights on next year's title.

"It's mid-July now and I wanted to have a few weeks before the beginning of the new season so I can fire up and be ready to really hit my top in August," Lindop said.

"Obviously it's a new season and I really want to have another crack at the title."
