Robert Heathcote has all but conceded the Brisbane premiership but he is still locked in a major struggle to be Queensland's top trainer.
The five-time winner of the Brisbane title, Heathcote is in third position on 47-1/2 winners this season.
He dropped further behind when rivals Tony Gollan (55 winners) and Matt Dunn (48) won races at Doomben on Saturday.
However, Heathcote still leads the state premiership on 75-1/2 winners just in front of Gollan (74) and Dunn (72).
Prolific country trainer John Manzelman is next on 67.
Heathcote, who is now on a winter holiday overseas, is also the leading Brisbane trainer on prize money with 80-1/2 winners Australia-wide for $4,618,200 to Gollan's 76 for $4,484,275.
"I am looking forward to a break," Heathcote said.
"It has been full on in recent years and I would like to keep at least one title away from the younger blokes."
Dunn, who is based at Murwillumbah in NSW, has done a great job this year and has 96 winners in total.
"To win 100 races would naturally be very good but we are looking at the long term as well" Dunn said.
Country jockey Adrian Coome has the title of Queensland's leading jockey on winners wrapped up with 121-1/2, well clear of Michael Cahill and Tim Bell on 109.
