It is the race within a race that has come a week too late for Gerald Ryan as a racehorse owner.
But while Ryan is still ruing two-year-old Inz'N'Out's defeat, as a trainer he is in an enviable position to snare a valuable bonus for his clients at Randwick on Saturday.
Ryan is a shareholder in Inz'N'Out who finished second to Liberation at Rosehill, missing out on an Inglis sales-related bonus for which the winner was ineligible.
Unlike last week, if the winner of the benchmark 75 for three-year-olds is not qualified for the Inglis bonus, the first eligible horse will get the $100,000 and a possible $20,000 BOBS bonus.
It makes it the richest prize on offer in Australian racing on Saturday.
"I wish that had been the way it was last week," Ryan said.
"This time you only have to be the first Inglis horse home. But if you win you get the BOBS bonus as well and ours are qualified for both.
"If one of the three can win it's worth $168,000 and that's a lot of money at this time of year."
With the scratching of Dowdstown Charlie, first emergency Zaba Zaba Doo will join his Ryan-trained stablemates El Sasso and Mineko in the race.
The trainer is reluctant to split the trio but admits to being impressed with last-start Canterbury winner Mineko.
"She used to have one race or two and lighten off," he said.
"This time she is going into her third start a lot better than she would have before.
"She is a really good doer now and has strengthened up.
"El Sasso is also going well but win or lose, he will be going out to get gelded after Saturday."
Zaba Zaba Doo has had two runs back from a long injury lay-off and if things work out, Tommy Berry will ride.
Glyn Schofield, who was booked for Dowdstown Charlie, is now riding Coolring at 58kg while Berry is scheduled to ride second emergency Royal Jackpot who has 54kg.
"If Royal Jackpot doesn't get a run, then Tommy will ride so hopefully for us that's how it works out," Ryan said.
The other runners vying for the bonus are the Anthony Cummings-trained Forget Maybe, Husswick (Rod Northam) Poetic Debate (Jenny Graham) and Royal Jackpot (Matthew Dale).
