Grylls claim an asset for Schweida trio

Friday 1 August 2014, 2:58pm

Trainer Kelly Schweida has called on in-form apprentice Bridget Grylls to help him start the new racing season in the high fashion he finished the last one.

Schweida had a winning double at Doomben last Saturday to take him into fourth place on the Brisbane trainers' premiership with 28 wins for the 2013-2014 season.

The Eagle Farm trainer had 51 winners overall which was down slightly.

"It wasn't a bad season and we did finish fourth in Brisbane but I was a bit disappointed we didn't have more city winners," Schweida said.

"Still, the season finished well and we have a couple of in-form horses, so let's hope it continues."

Schweida will saddle up three top chances on Saturday in Lennie's Choice, Tiger Dimejan and L'entrecote.

"I have booked Bridget for the three of them because they have all paid for their consistency with big weights," Schweida said.

"With her three-kilogram claim they all get into the races with weights that should give them every chance to win.

"And for a change all three have drawn very good barriers. Tiger Dimejan even drew the inside barrier, that stunned me."

However, Schweida was particularly pleased L'entrecote drew barrier six.

"It is no secret I really like this horse but he has had nothing but bad barriers and no luck in his races. We should get a chance to see the best of him on Saturday," Schweida said.

Grylls is in demand on Saturday and will also ride Saluter who will be one of the favourites in the Desleigh Forster Handicap (1400m).

Meanwhile, another apprentice, Cassie Schmidt, makes her return to Saturday city racing on Flying Riddle in the Austack Handicap (1000m).

Schmidt regained her city licence last week.

She has ridden 160 winners including 57 during the past 12 months.

"Cassie is determined to make this her season. There aren't many three-kilo (apprentices) around who have ridden so many winners as her," said her father and master Dwayne Schmidt.
