Pride to trial former Hong Kong galloper

A horse who has been competitive on the international stage at Hong Kong's feature meeting will kick-start a new phase of his career in Sydney on Thursday.

Hypurr, who raced as Sichuan Success in Hong Kong, has joined the Joe Pride stable and makes his first Australian appearance in an 800m barrier trial at Warwick Farm.

"He was a Group Three winner in Hong Kong and went around in a few Group Ones over there," Pride said.

"John Size trained him. He seems a nice horse.

"I'm looking at starting him in the Razor Sharp first-up."

The Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) is at Warwick Farm on December 22.

A gelding by Fastnet Rock, the six-year-old raced 16 times in Hong Kong for six wins and two placings.

His biggest victory came in the Group Three Premier Cup (1400m) at Sha Tin in June last year.

He finished fifth, beaten 2-1/2 lengths, in the Group One Hong Kong Mile (1600m) on International day last December.

"These older horses that come from Hong Kong can be pretty effective over here, just with the change in conditions," Pride said.

Comeback sprinter Whitefriars from the Rick Worthington stable is also down to trial at Warwick Farm as he builds towards a race return.

Villiers Stakes-bound Malavio is entered for a 1200m heat with the Festival Stakes slated as his return from a freshen-up ahead of the Villiers.

Last year's Villiers winner Monton is also down to trial in the same heat as Whitefriars over 800m.
