Ford escapes injury in Warwick Farm fall

Wednesday 5 December 2012, 3:48pm

Jockey Jay Ford has escaped injury after being thrown from a horse during a race at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Ford came crashing to the turf at around the 900 metre mark of the ALEA Actuarial Consulting Handicap (1300m) when his mount Vegasherewecome started "humping up" and dislodged him.

The jockey was attended to by ambulance staff on the track but later walked back into the jockeys' room with only muscle soreness in his lower back.

"I'm alright. They just said I've got muscle soreness across my back, like a bad cork," Ford said.

"I was just sitting back in the field and then the horse sucked up and dropped its head. He then started humping up."

Ford was replaced from his ride in a later race on the program.
