A dearth of suitable two-year-old races in the country has prompted Port Macquarie trainer Neil Godbolt to undertake a city mission with Choice Dawn.
A daughter of Royal Ascot-winning sprinter Choisir, the filly won her only start at Scone last month after showing ability on the track at home.
"She ran a class record on the day and she's a filly with a bit of talent," Godbolt said.
"I think she's worth giving a try (in town).
"The way things are situated in the country, there isn't another two-year-old race for her between now and Christmas so it was either come to town or she'd be in the paddock."
Choice Dawn is one of eight acceptors for Saturday's Blackwoods Alemlube Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill.
While the lack of suitable races closer to home might be the impetus behind Godbolt's trip, he doesn't make the five-hour haul to Sydney on a whim.
His last city victory was with Never Doubt Me at Randwick in August last year and he has been back just once since then.
"I'm not that keen on travelling down unless I think the horse can run well," Godbolt said.
Godbolt has enjoyed his share of success in Sydney over the years, most notably with the speedy Hipwell who was runner-up in the 2003 Pago Pago Stakes.
Choice Dawn might not be in that bracket but Godbolt still feels she has plenty of upside.
"Hipwell was just a real little speed horse who hit the ground running," Godbolt said.
"This filly is better ridden a bit quieter but she's not as good as him at this stage."
