Adelaide visitor Deiheros is set to take another step towards more Magic Millions glory when he makes his Queensland debut.
Deiheros arrived in Brisbane a week ago and has impressed track watchers in the lead up to the Group Three Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
The gelding has already proved a bargain for trainer Lloyd Kennewell having cost just $6500 at the 2013 Adelaide Magic Millions sales.
Deiheros's Adelaide Magic Millions Classic win in March helped lift his prize money to $169,400.
Kennewell said Deiheros had done well since he arrived in Brisbane and he expected him to race well in his lead-up to the $1 million Magic Millions Guineas.
"All being well he will go on to the Magic Millions Guineas in a fortnight. He really deserves a chance at more Magic Millions money, he has been so consistent," Kennewell said.
"He has won four races and the worst he has done in nine starts was a fourth a Moonee Valley when he didn't have much luck."
Deiheros comes into the Vo Rogue on the back of a first-up win against older horses in Adelaide on December 13.
"We were looking at running him in a three-year-old race but he would have got 61 kilograms so we took on the older horses," Kennewell said.
"He won well and ran around 1ms9 for the 1200 metres. It was a smart effort against some far more experienced horses."
The young trainer has been in great form with 23 winners in South Australia and Victoria for the season so far.
He works closely with his father Gary and they have ben regular visitors to Queensland in recent years.
The Kennewells sprinter-miler Conservatorium won the 2013 Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich and stayer Rialya won that year's Tattersall's Cup.
"We have had a couple of runners at the Magic Millions carnival without much luck," Kennewell said.
"We will also be back in the winter with horses such as Conservatorium."
Meanwhile, Victorian trainer Andrew Noblet has given his two-year-old Old Trieste every chance to acclimatise in his Magic Millions Classic quest.
Old Trieste has been in Brisbane for several weeks after finishing fourth in the Magic Millions race at Ballarat on November 22.
The colt had a jump-out on Tuesday and will race in winkers on Saturday.
Noblet said he had put Old Trieste in the McLachlan on Saturday to give the colt a good look at the Gold Coast track before the Classic.
