Christmas day will be a virtual blip on Kathy O'Hara's radar this year as she focuses on making the most of some key rides during the holiday period.
With the likes of James McDonald, Kerrin McEvoy and Glyn Schofield either taking a short break or suspended, O'Hara is hoping to make some important inroads.
Her mission will begin on Boxing Day when she has two rides for Chris Waller headlined by Multilateral, one of three runners for the premier trainer in the Group Three Summer Cup at Randwick.
O'Hara is keen to get some results on the board during the holiday period after a recent careless riding suspension halted her momentum.
"It's been a little bit quiet. I had a suspension setback for a bit and I've just been trying to get back on some nice horses," O'Hara said.
"There are so many good jockeys in Sydney at the moment, it's pretty competitive.
"Apart from this time of year, the horse pool is quite small compared to the number of jockeys in Sydney.
"It is a bit difficult but obviously there is plenty of racing and a few jockeys having some time off over Christmas so there's a bit of an opportunity for me."
The Summer Cup will mark O'Hara's first ride on Multilateral who resumed with an eye-catching sixth in the Festival Stakes before finishing unplaced in the Group Two Villiers Stakes.
The step up to 2000m looks ideal and O'Hara noted the Wyong Cup winner was unbeaten third-up since joining the Waller yard.
"It's a good ride to pick up," O'Hara said.
"His record three starts back (from a spell) is good and it's the right sort of race for him."
O'Hara has rides in seven of the eight races at Randwick including Multilateral's stablemate Miss Denni in the McGrath Estate Agents Handicap.
She will also be in action at Canterbury on Saturday with her mounts highlighted by Happy Galaxy in the day's feature.
Longer-term, O'Hara has been booked for the Magic Millions Classic mount on Single Gaze who she said would strip much fitter for her placing behind Zoutenant in last week's lead-up race at Wyong.
