Darci trying to be Good for one more run

Friday 26 December 2014, 12:27pm

Win, lose or draw rejuvenated galloper Darci Be Good will go for a spell earning A grade marks from trainer Andrew Williamson.

Darci Be Good will be having his 10th start for Williamson in the Stuart James Memorial Handicap (1800m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

The six-year-old gelding had not won for two years when he joined Williamson's Caloundra stables in August.

Since then he has won two open-company handicaps, been third four times and also ran a fourth for more than $110,000 in prize money.

Williamson has won a lot of kudos for the way he has carefully managed Darci Be Good.

"He isn't telling me that he wants a spell but there really isn't anything for him after Saturday's race for about six weeks," Williamsom said.

"It would be a good time to give him a break. He really has been good for us and you must remember he has had a few little issues along the way."

Darci Be Good is likely to be set for the lower-rung Cups during the winter carnival.

"I have got him out to 2200 metres this campaign but most of his runs have been around the 1600 metres because I wanted to get a few starts out of him."

"But I have had races such as the Ipswich Cup and Caloundra Cup in the back of mind for a while."
