Ritzy prepared for Canterbury debut

Tuesday 20 January 2015, 5:32pm

As dual Group One winner Fiveandahalfstar prepares for his return from a long injury lay-off, his younger sister Ritzy is nearing her track debut.

The filly is among 16 entries for the two-year-old maiden at Canterbury on Monday with trainer Anthony Cummings believing she too is a stayer of the future.

Fiveandahalfstar won the 2012 Victoria Derby but has not raced since beating Silent Achiever to win the 2013 BMW.

"The plan is for Fiveandahalfstar to have a barrier trial on the 10th of February as a starting point," Cummings said.

"We can make plans after that.

"Ritzy will run at Canterbury on Monday. I think 1200 metres is a nice place for her to start.

"She showed ability in her trial and has coped well enough since.

"She was a very expensive yearling and I hope she will get up over ground.

"The plan with her is to get her to the Fernhill Handicap over 1600 metres and what she does on Monday will be a guide as to how we get there."

By the Cummings-trained Group One winner Hotel Ground, Fiveandahalfstar was a $20,000 yearling but his deeds pushed the price of his Medaglia D'Oro sister to $500,000 when she went through the ring.

Cummings will start Irvine in the 2YO Plate (1000m) at Randwick on Saturday but is still undecided where Love Las Vegas will make her debut.

"Love Las Vegas is also in at Wyong on Thursday so I'm not sure where she will run," he said.

"But Irvine will be at Randwick."

Love Las Vegas is by Casino Prince who Cummings trained to win at Group One level while Irvine's sire Turffontein is another Group One winner from the stable.
