A disappointed Dwayne Dunn will miss the ride on Deep field in the Lightning Stakes but is confident the sprinter can keep his unbeaten record intact.
Dunn failed in his appeal on Wednesday to have a careless riding ban reduced so he could partner Deep Field in Saturday's Group One sprint at Flemington.
The winner of his five starts for the Hawkes training team and owner Alan Bell, Deep Field will be having his first Group One start against five rivals, including reigning Horse of the Year, Lankan Rupee.
"You don't want to be missing big races and big meetings. I was well-supported by Team Hawkes to wait and see what the outcome was and unfortunately it hasn't gone my way," Dunn said.
"Deep Field is a superstar and he could potentially go on to do anything, so it's unfortunate to miss the ride through suspension, for sure."
"Obviously he's got to go to this level but he's shown us he's more than capable of being Group One class.
"Hopefully on Saturday he ticks that box."
