Golden Slipper favourite Vancouver will have his final lead-up run to the $3.5 million race in the Todman Stakes.
Unbeaten after wins in the Breeders' Plate and the Canonbury Stakes, Vancouver was expected to continue his build-up to the world's richest two-year-old race in the Silver Slipper Stakes.
But he was missing from the eight Silver Slipper acceptors on Wednesday with trainer Gai Waterhouse deciding on a different path to the Golden Slipper.
"He'll now have a barrier trial at Randwick on Monday," Tulloch Lodge spokesman Mark Newnham said.
Vancouver is nominated to contest a 740m trial against seven rivals.
"The Golden Slipper is still a month away and as Gai said to me 'it's all about the timing' and that's why she thinks the Todman Stakes is a better fit," Newham said.
Vancouver is the $6 favourite to give Waterhouse her sixth Golden Slipper success.
The Group Two Todman Stakes is at Randwick on March 7.
