Lake Geneva is the least experienced runner in the Blue Diamond Stakes but connections are relying on untapped potential to take her a long way in the $1 million race.
Lake Geneva will step out for just her second start in Saturday's Group One at Caulfield but she is rated among the leading chances.
"We wouldn't be running her unless we thought she had a chance," Coolmore Australia's general manager Michael Kirwan said.
Coolmore sold the Fastnet Rock filly for $1 million as a yearling but the stud bought back into her after a debut placing in the Widden Stakes.
She will race in the stud's famous navy blue silks on Saturday.
Lake Geneva will be ridden by Dwayne Dunn who has a special affinity with the Blue Diamond after winning the race four years in a row between 2005 to 2008.
Kirwan said trainer John Hawkes was happy with the filly's recent jump-out at Flemington which convinced the stable to press on to the Blue Diamond.
"It's a Group One race so you've got to take your chance," he said.
"I suppose she's a little bit unexposed only having the one run, but it was a very good run in the Widden Stakes and probably the barrier beat her that day, to be fair.
"We're in with a shouting chance."
Lake Geneva has barrier 11 in the field of 15 and Kirwan said it would be up to Hawkes to decide the best race plan.
Alongside her in gate 12 will be Godolphin colt Sampeah and jockey Chad Schofield is convinced the Prelude minor placegetter is a live chance.
Sampeah got a long way back at his first Melbourne start in the Prelude before hitting the line strongly.
Trainer John O'Shea has applied blinkers in a bid to get the colt to travel closer to the speed.
"I think the blinkers will really improve him and with the sectionals he ran the other day, if he can improve which I think he will, he's right in the race," Schofield said.
Sampeah is on the third line of betting at $10 alongside Of The Brave with unbeaten filly Fontiton a clear-cut favourite at $2.30.
