Cox Plate winner Adelaide has pleased his trainer with a raceday gallop but is still a few weeks away from competing in the real thing.
With Hugh Bowman aboard, Adelaide galloped with Royal Descent who had his measure on the line by a half neck.
Chris Waller, who is training Adelaide for his Sydney campaign before he returns to Aidan O'Brien in Ireland, says the four-year-old is still learning.
"He is still at least three weeks away from racing," Waller said.
"He will have another trial in the next two weeks. A possible kick-off point is the Sky High Stakes but he could wait and go straight to the Queen Elizabeth over 2000 metres.
"Hugh said he gave him a lot better feeling than he did in his trial and he was very happy.
"We still need to see him jump out quickly from the barrier. That is something he is still learning."
Royal Descent, the 2013 ATC Australian Oaks winner, will be seen in next week's Group One Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick.
"She is very forward and she went as I expected for a horse which will race in seven days," Waller said.
Royal Descent ran the 1000 metres in 1m02.61s, her last 600 in 34.2s.
