A Group Three win in the Liverpool City Cup at Warwick Farm has set the tone for It's Somewhat's autumn campaign.
The four-year-old was identified by Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock adviser John Ferguson as the ideal type for Australian conditions.
He was sent to Godolphin's trainer John O'Shea who said he hoped he could be a Group One contender over the next few weeks after he held off Villiers winner Rudy by 1-1/4 lengths on Saturday.
"John sent him out to possibly be a participant in the Queen Elizabeth," O'Shea said.
"He has run third in an Eclipse Stakes which would normally be good enough form to be competitive in a Queen Elizabeth.
"We'll put him in the Doncaster and probably have one more run in the George Ryder and see what happens."
The $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on April 11 is Sydney's richest race.
James McDonald, who won last year's Queen Elizabeth Stakes on It's A Dundeel, was equally impressed.
"John (OShea) has done a good job keeping enough sprint in his legs to get him towards today and he won really well" he said.
"They did go mad early. I cut the corner and got a bit of a break and I think that was the difference between winning and losing."
Gold Coast trainer Helen Page, who was returning to her former home with Rudy, was delighted with his performance.
"He is a good fresh horse and I'm delighted with that," she said.
"We needed to be happy with him today to confirm he was on the right track for the Doncaster and he is."
