Godolphin goes one-two in Chipping Norton

Saturday 28 February 2015, 4:35pm

Godolphin import Contributer has added a Group One win to a blossoming Australian record after beating stablemate Hartnell in the $500,000 Chipping Norton Stakes at Warwick Farm.

The result for Sheikh Mohammed's global operation gave John O'Shea his first Group One win since taking over as Godolphin's head trainer last year.

It is also Godolphin's first Group One win in Australia since All The Good took out the 2008 Caulfield Cup.

"It's only the start but it's a nice start," O'Shea said.

Contributer, a first-up winner of the Apollo Stakes, sat midfield before easing out on the turn to launch his claim under jockey James McDonald.

Starting the $2.45 favourite, Contributer swept to the lead at the 200m and although Hartnell ($18) ran on strongly he never appeared likely to catch the winner.

Epsom Handicap winner He's Your Man ($9.50) took the minor placing just in front of New Zealand mare Silent Achiever.

Contributer has now won three of his four Australian starts.
