Adelaide's leading trainer Phillip Stokes has added to an impressive strike rate in Melbourne this season with two-year-old Caro Kann scoring at Caulfield.
Caro Kann had race experience on his side in Saturday's Robert Taranto Handicap (1100m) and the gelding surged forward to take the lead from his wide barrier and was never headed.
The gelding, which firmed from $11 to $7, kept building to top gear in the straight and opened up a winning break to score by 2-1/4 lengths.
Debutant Lizard Island ($10) finished strongly for second with More Than Most ($11) also doing his best work late to finish another length away third.
Caro Kann gave Stokes his seventh win in Melbourne from just 19 starters this season.
Stokes' Melbourne wins have included the Group One Emirates Stakes with Hucklebuck.
Melbourne's leading apprentice Patrick Moloney said the professionalism of Caro Kann, which was having his fifth start, showed as he notched his second win.
"We had to boot across early but he ended up relaxing beautifully and got into a nice rhythm," Moloney said.
"He got a couple of cheap sectionals and was able to have a little kick at the end.
"He was the most raced of today's brigade and the most professional, that's why he won. But he still put them away nicely."
