Apprentice Tom Sadler has turned to one of Australia's most respected jockeys in a bid to further his career.
Sadler approached Steven Arnold for advice about his riding, knowing winter is always an important time for claiming apprentices.
And Sadler, who rode a winning double at Sandown on Monday, believes going through his rides with Arnold has already paid off.
"He's been helping me for probably the last two or three weeks and even though it's been a short time I've really got a lot out of it," Sadler said.
"We're just working on different things - style, tactics and all that sort of thing."
Arnold has been successful in some of Australia's biggest races, most notably the Cox Plate on So You Think in 2010.
He has also won at Royal Ascot on Australian sprinter Scenic Blast in 2009.
Being one of the tallest riders in Australia, Arnold also has to manage his weight.
"He's got a great style and is also very level-headed," Sadler said.
"I think that if there was anyone for me that was going to suit to help me go through my rides and just life as a jockey, I think I couldn't really ask for anyone better."
Arnold said he was happy to help out when Sadler approached him.
"I think it's good if you can get a different bit of perspective on your riding and I think all the seniors are very happy to help out if the guys want to learn," Arnold said.
Sadler's Sandown double took his city wins to nine for the season.
He has two rides at Flemington card headlined by Henwood who is trained by his father John.
Henwood resumes in the 3AW Community Raceday Handicap (1000m) and Sadler expects him to improve into the campaign.
