Dual Group-winning mare Tycoon Tara is poised to clash with Trust In A Gust at Caulfield ahead of a major interstate target.

Tycoon Tara's trainer Symon Wilde said the VOBIS GOld Sprint (1200m) was the likely option for her on Saturday in preference to the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m).

"I'll talk to the owners but I'm pretty sure that's the way we'll go," Wilde said.

"The 1100 metres is probably the ideal distance but I thought outside of Trust In A Gust the 1200 metre race looked a lot softer option."

Tycoon Tara notched back-to-back Group Three wins at Caulfield in February in the Bellmaine Stakes and Mannerism Stakes.

Connections considered the Coolmore Classic in Sydney but decided instead to target the Group One Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) for fillies and mares in Adelaide on May 2.

"She seems to have really good speed so with that in mind we thought we'd give her a freshen-up and focus on that race," Wilde said.

"That's her grand final.

"We were thinking of giving her some trials leading in, but thought a race might have her absolutely spot-on."

Tycoon Tara won a maiden by six lengths at Warrnambool in January last year then spent 10 months on the sidelines.

She returned to win at Dunkeld then added a Sandown win and her two Group wins.

Wilde said Tycoon Tara had made quantum leaps over 12 months.

"She's become a big strong mare from a narrow, tall filly," he said.

"She's become a big powerhouse now."

The $150,000 VOBIS Gold Sprint has 42 nominations headlined by Rupert Clarke Stakes and Toorak Handicap winner Trust In A Gust.

He will head to Brisbane for three Group One races after Saturday before joining the stallion roster at Swettenham Stud.

Tycoon Tara didn't get things her own way in the run last start but still won which convinced Wilde she would be a genuine contender in the Sangster.

"It's going to be a very, very good race but I think she's worth the effort of taking her over there," he said. "I don't think she'll be making up the numbers."
