Press Report in driver's seat for G3 Carr

Wednesday 15 April 2015, 11:34am

Lee Curtis has given Press Report a pass mark for her TJ Smith Stakes effort but is taking her back to her own age group for her next start.

The trainer said although the three-year-old filly finished eighth in the Group One weight-for-age sprint last Monday week, her run was better than it looked.

She will take her place in Saturday's Group Three J H B Carr Stakes (1400m) for fillies.

"She hadn't raced for five weeks going into the TJ Smith so she may have been a run short," Curtis said.

"If it had been a dry track the run might have looked a bit better.

"She over-raced a bit but has come out of the race well.

"We got $75,000 for running eighth which is OK too."

Press Report is one 12 acceptances for the Carr in which she carries 54kg.

Keith Nolan Classic winner Slightly Sweet, consistent filly Peeping and the Gai Waterhouse-trained pair of Nayeli and Supara will be among her rivals.

"She gets in well at the weights," Curtis said.

"Even though she is the highest money earner, she doesn't get a penalty because she hasn't won a Group race so it looks ideal."

Press Report has won two of her 13 starts and her two minor placings include a second to Mossfun in the 2014 Silver Slipper.

Curtis said the Hawkesbury Guineas two weeks after the Carr was the natural progression for Press Report who was tried up to the 2000 metres of last year's Spring Champion Stakes in which she finished fourth.

The trainer has formed her autumn campaign around shorter races and her three starts include a 1200m win over older horses at Warwick Farm in February.
