Stud-bound gallopers Hvasstan and Zoomania will face what could be the first of several winter carnival clashes when they resume in the same race at Doomben on Saturday.

The duo, along with stablemate Tornado Miss, will line-up for form trainer Tony Gollan in the Cascade Hcp (1350m).

Hvasstan is a new addition to the Gollan stable after doing the bulk of his racing in Victoria for trainer Peter Gelagotis.

The five-year-old won the Group Three Norman Robinson Stakes during his spring three-year-old campaign in which he also finished fourth in the Victoria Derby.

He has raced mainly in stakes company since then but has not won a race since October, 2013.

Hvasstan was sent to Gollan earlier this year in the hope he could add to his black-type record before he was retired to stud.

Gollan said he was still learning about Hvasstan and planned to set the stallion for races in the 1600m to 2000m distance range.

"I think some of the Listed races around 1600 metres and maybe the Tatt's Cup or Ipswich Cup would be his mission this winter," Gollan said.

"At this stage, I am not looking at Group One races with him but that could change if he races well.

"He has had one jump-out but we missed another because of the wet tracks. Still, he worked strongly on Tuesday morning and I think he is ready to race well."

Hvasstan is expected to stand at stud in Queensland this breeding season.

Zoomania will be having her fifth start for Gollan and the rising eight-year-old will follow a similar campaign to her stablemate before beginning a new career as a broodmare.

"They should clash a few times this winter with her likely missions virtually the same as Hvasstan's," Gollan said.

"I am very keen to get some black type with her and there are a couple of races around the 1600-metres which should suit."

Meanwhile, Gollan is still to settle on a winter carnival target for Trakstar who will be among the favourites for Saturday's Coke Zero Hcp (1630m).

"After Saturday I will decide whether to run him in the Toowoomba Cup over 2000 metres, or save him for a 1600-metre Listed race is three weeks time," Gollan said.
