The Wildman moved a step closer to a start in the better two-year-old races during the Brisbane winter carnival with a runaway win at the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday.
Starting a $2.60 favourite, The Wildman gave trainer Mick Mair and jockey Tegan Harrison the first leg of an early double when he beat Patronizing by 3-1/2 lengths in the Butler McDermott Lawyers Hcp (1300m).
The gelding was bred by Brisbane Race Club chairman Neville Bell who stands The Wildman's sire Champions Gallery at his Kilto Park Stud north of Brisbane.
Bell said The Wildman, who is named after the late Sydney trainer Tony Wildman, had earned a start in the Group Three Ken Russell Memorial Classic at the Gold Coast on April 25.
"I would obviously like The Wildman to be competitive in the Group Two and One races during the winter to help push Champions Gallery," Bell said.
"But we will have a much better idea after the Ken Russell.
"He won very well today but they were midweek horses and you would want him to win like that to be a winter hopeful."
Mair also produced a smart first-starter in Stevenson ($3.70) who led all the way for Harrison in the Caloundra Cup 16 May 2015 Plate (1300m).
