Brisbane mare Missy Longstocking will be on trial for a trip to Adelaide when she runs in Melbourne on Saturday.
Trained by Liam Birchley, Missy Longstocking will contest the Mitsubishi Electric Superscreen Launch Plate (1100m) at Caulfield and her performance will determine whether she heads to the Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on May 2.
Birchley said Adelaide had been the mare's target from the start of her preparation as there were no suitable races for her during the upcoming Brisbane winter carnival.
It will be her first outing since she finished last of six runners over 1200m at Flemington on March 7 after which she was diagnosed with a viral complaint.
"We've got to make sure she's going OK before we make a final decision on Adelaide," Birchley said.
"She had a viral issue after her last run but we've got that cleaned up and she's back near her best."
Missy Longstocking has drawn widest in barrier 11 but she will have the benefit of Tom Sadler's 2kg claim, bringing her weight down to 60kg in the race for fillies and mares.
The daughter of Sequalo was also nominated for the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) in which she had 54kg but Birchley decided to take the easier option.
"I didn't want to be drawing wide in the other race and having a tough run," Birchley said.
"I thought this was a bit easier and if she is to win then I think it will give her some confidence going to Adelaide."
Birchley is satisfied Missy Longstocking has overcome her viral issues, reporting that she galloped strongly at Caulfield on Tuesday and scoped cleanly after the workout.
