Trainer Barry Baldwin's confidence in experienced jockey Larry Cassidy was rewarded when Glendara recorded an impressive win at the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday.
Glendara, the $2.50 favourite, defied a weight rise when he led throughout to give Cassidy the second leg of a double in the Higgins Coatings Hcp (1600m).
Baldwin used 3kg claiming apprentice Matt McGillivray when Glendara won his previous start at Ipswich and admitted he would have called on the young rider again if McGillivray wasn't suspended.
The trainer instead looked to Cassidy believing the jockey's experience would compensate for the extra weight.
"I have an opinion of Glendara but the weight rise did have me a bit worried. He went up 2.5 kilograms which can stop some horses," Baldwin said.
"But Glendara was able to lead all the way here and there might be a better race in him."
Cassidy, 45 and a three-time Sydney premiership winner, has been dogged by injury since he moved to Brisbane in 2009.
But he has been in great form in recent months and a double on Wednesday took him to 22 metropolitan winners for the season.
Cassidy also won the Linked Group Plumbing Hcp (1200m) on the Darren Bell-trained Red Hot Dazzler ($8).
Bell said that although Red Hot Dazzler had been beaten at the country track of Dalby at his previous start, it had proved a good form race with the winner Col `n' Lil subsequently running second at Doomben.
Meanwhile, Jim Byrne remains five wins astern of Luke Tarrant in the Brisbane jockeys' premiership despite a victory aboard Kobi Creek in the Wimmers Soft Drinks Hcp (2200m).
The victory was Byrne's 44th this season and took him to within four wins of Tarrant before the leading jockey kicked back with a victory aboard Macka's Back in the final event.
Tony Gollan continued to dominate the trainers' premiership when Satirical Lass gave him his 64th metropolitan win of the season in the Ladies Oaks Day 29 May 2015 Hcp (1200m).
