Star young jockey Chad Schofield will head to England with an open mind and the determination to make the most of a three-month riding stint.
Melbourne-based Schofield will travel to the UK after riding at the Hollindale Stakes meeting at the Gold Coast on Saturday week.
He will be based at Newmarket with Ed Dunlop, the trainer of three-time Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux.
"I'm heading over to be based at Newmarket and I'm going to be riding for Ed Dunlop for three months," Schofield said.
"I'm really looking forward to it. I've never ridden overseas so I'm looking forward to the new challenge and just really going over to learn another style of racing and obviously gain experience."
In his short career in the saddle to date, 21-year-old Schofield has won a Sydney and Melbourne apprentices' premiership and ridden four Group One winners.
His biggest success came in the 2013 Cox Plate on three-year-old Shamus Award.
The English flat season is just starting and Schofield says it is the right time to test the waters.
"Obviously it's their time of year for their racing and all the good races are coming up," he said.
"I'm going to be based with a good stable and I've got a good manager.
"I'm going over with an open mind and whatever happens, happens."
Schofield said he would return to Australia in time for the start of the new racing season on August 1.
