Dittman back in winner's stall at Doomben

Apprentice Luke Dittman has landed his first win since his return from serious injury, helping Homehill to an overdue victory at Doomben.

Dittman, the son of champion jockey Mick Dittman, spent three months out of the saddle after fracturing his neck and collarbone in a race fall at the Sunshine Coast on Australia Day.

The youngster headed to Doomben on Wednesday for one ride and made sure it was a winning one.

"I have been feeling good and I've had a few rides back but that was my first win since the fall," Dittman said.

The victory was also a breakthrough for Homehill who finally shed his tag as one of Brisbane racing's best maidens.

Homehill had not won in 10 previous starts but had placed six times including a second in Listed company.

He had also run fourth in the Magic Millions Maiden and the Listed Gold Edition Stakes.

Starting the $1.50 favourite, Homehill proved too strong in the straight to win the Carnival Ball - 16th May Maiden Handicap (1200m) by 1-1/4 lengths over Lady Duporth.

Trainer Kelly Schweida was quick to defend Homehill's record and said the horse had been set some tough tasks.

"I would love all of my horses to have won over $100,000 like he has," Schweida said.

"To be fair, we have put him in some good-standard races and he has always tried hard."

"Homehill is a nice horse and he can win some more races."

Veteran jockey Jeff Lloyd showed his toughness when he bounced back from a fall at Doomben on Saturday to boot home Big Decision in the Stradbroke Eve Calcutta - 5th June Hcp (1350m).

"There was no speed in the race so I decided to press forward and he kept going," Lloyd said.

Lloyd said his body had recovered well since his tumble from We're Ready in the last race on Saturday.

Meanwhile, trainer Barry Lockwood revealed stakes race aspirations for Hidden Pearl after her easy win in the Treasury Casino and Hotel Qld Oaks - 30th May Hcp (1050m).

"She has a way to go but she has won both her starts for us and she keeps stepping up. A Saturday race and maybe a black-type placing are our aims," Lockwood said.
