It was big cheers all around at Kyneton as Grand Syndicates' bargain gelding Gilchrist opened his account in style taking out the Vobis Gold 1850m maiden.
Jumping well from barrier 2, Ben Melham had the son of Reset handy and travelling sweetly throughout before presenting him strongly upon straightening where he kicked clear and held off a strong challenge by London Fog late to score in a photo. It was a tough win from the 3yo, who had showed promise at each of his 3 runs this prep, finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th as he built strongly towards today's win.
It was a great payday for his owners too with the $20,000 Inglis Premier Sale purchase pocketing a cool $29,300 with the Vobis Gold Bonus. Gilchrist has now already won his purchase price back plus some in his short 5 start career with plenty more to come.
The Luke Oliver trained stayer will now look to step up to city grade and continue with what looks a promising staying career.
