Moody youngsters to follow in Caviar path

Tuesday 28 April 2015, 4:56pm

Peter Moody will unveil two possible future stable stars at an off-season Caulfield meeting that announced the arrival of Black Caviar as a stakes winner.

Black Caviar landed her first feature-race win six years ago in the Blue Sapphire Stakes.

The race was the second of a 25-race undefeated run before the mare's retirement.

The Blue Sapphire Stakes is now positioned in the spring as a race for three-year-olds but Moody could have two runners in a replacement race, the Redoute's Choice Stakes, a Listed event for two-year-olds on Saturday.

Moody will be accepting with recent Moe winner Cool Snitzel and first starter Cool Chap.

Cool Snitzel has also been nominated for the Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville and Moody is leaving his options open.

"I'll have a look at the barriers and make a decision," he said.

"She's a nice filly and she's always shown us some nice ability.

"We took her to Moe for a spin around and have a good day out and she's trained on nicely off the back of that."

Cool Chap, a son of High Chaparral, comes into Saturday's race after a fourth placing in a Cranbourne barrier trial on April 14.

Moody said the gelding had worked well and was ready for his debut.

Besides Black Caviar, the autumn edition of the Blue Sapphire also unearthed Group One winner Smokin' Joey, who scored on debut in 2010.

And going back to 2006, the quality Hong Kong sprinter Green Birdie was successful before the race was given black-type status.

A trip to the Hunter Valley last week gave Moody and his family the opportunity to see Black Caviar and her Exceed And Excel filly foal.

"She's in good shape and seems to be enjoying life," Moody said.

"The family hadn't seen her for a good while and neither had I, so it was great to see her and the foal again."
