Press Statement has emulated his half-brother Pressday's victory on debut but is unlikely to follow in his footsteps to try to become a Group One-winning two-year-old.
Pressday became trainer Chris Waller's first Group One-winning youngster when he claimed the TJ Smith in Brisbane in 2010.
However, the trainer says Press Statement is not ready to follow his distinguished relative's path just yet.
Press Statement instead will go to a Saturday race with little chance of making it to the Brisbane carnival.
"I think it's important to give him a little bit more grounding," Waller said.
"I think we'll have a lot of fun with him as a three-year-old."
The colt travelled midfield for most of Wednesday's TAB Place Multi Handicap and ran home strongly to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Volante.
Jockey Tye Angland said the horse exceeded his expectations over the 1100m.
"I thought he'd be better over 1200 (metres) or 1300 (metres) so it was good to see that today," he said.
There was much interest surrounding the debut of the Gai Waterhouse-trained Cyrus Rocks in the same race.
The colt has been nominated for the inaugural Commonwealth Cup, a race for three-year-olds on the Royal Ascot program in England.
However his first start didn't got to plan when he was caught wide and finished unplaced.
Despite the disappointing result, Waterhouse isn't ready to rule the horse out of a trip overseas for the famous English carnival.
"I certainly wouldn't give up on him after that run," she said.
"I think he just ran like a horse looking for further."
Cyrus Rocks is also a chance to head to Brisbane where he has been nominated for the JJ Atkins at Doomben in June.
Waterhouse had better luck later in the day when filly Donelle scored a tough win in the Hyland Race Colours Handicap to earn a shot at the Scone and Brisbane carnivals.
