Big race double to Glen Boss at Wagga

Friday 1 May 2015, 6:03pm

Jockey Glen Boss has won the two big features on the second day of the Wagga Wagga carnival, steering Statton to win the Guineas and Landlocked to claim the Gold Cup.

Landlocked's emotional trainer Joe Cleary said the gelding was his favourite horse.

"I knew I had him spot-on," Cleary told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

"He's the only Zabeel I've ever trained. I just love the animal, I love him."

Landlocked was formerly in the Anthony Cummings stable and was sent to Cleary after owner Gerry Harvey brought him out of retirement.

"He's got issues, but haven't we all," Cleary said.

Boss, who has ridden many winners on the big stage, said country racing was important and Friday's meeting showed that.

"I've had two rides in the Cup and won them both," he said.

"I love country racing. It means a lot to the community and to me.

"And I've known Joe since he was five years old so to ride a winner like this for the family means a lot to me."

Landlocked beat Faust by a length with Gypsy Diamond another short head third.
