Anaphora Brisbane bound for Oaks

Saturday 2 May 2015, 2:49pm

Promising staying filly Anaphora has taken another step towards the Queensland Oaks with a last-to-first victory at Caulfield.

Ridden by Vlad Duric, Anaphora was backed from $12 to $8 in Saturday's No Fuss Events (1600m) before scoring a short half head victory over Violent Snow ($12) with Tears Of Joy ($7.50) two lengths away third.

Trainer Tony Noonan said he would see how the daughter of Dylan Thomas came out of Saturday's race before deciding whether to head straight to Brisbane for the Group One Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Doomben on May 30.

"There's a mile and a quarter race here in a fortnight that might suit so whether we go up now, or stay here and try and win that, we'll see," Noonan said.

Noonan says he has always held Anaphora in high regard and thinks the filly will keep getting better as she gets out over more ground.

"She was a good type and still has a lot of improvement as she's still got a bit of baby fat on her," Noonan said.

Noonan, who won with Mr Optimistic at the Gold Coast on Wednesday, said times had been a little lean recently but mares that he had success with on the track were starting to produce results as broodmares.

Among them is Anaphora's mother Power Of Love who Noonan trained to win three races.

"We've struggled a little bit of late with quality, but the old mares have looked after us pretty well," he said.
