Brenton Avdulla's working relationship with Sydney's biggest stables is set to go to another level as the racing season draws to a close, starting with a full book of rides at Rosehill on Saturday.
Avdulla is on the verge of moving into the top five on the jockeys' premiership table, a lofty standing that has been achieved without the consistent backing of trainers who dominate Sydney racing.
"Before Wednesday's meeting, Rugged Cross for Chris Waller and Deep Field for the Hawkes stable are the only two winners I've had for a trainer in the top five," Avdulla said.
Avdulla is in form, kicking home six winners and four second placegetters from his 11 rides leading into Wednesday's Warwick Farm program.
And the absence of Sydney's leading jockeys on Saturday because of Queensland winter carnival commitments will also help his cause.
Avdulla rode Rugged Cross to a surprise win at Randwick on April 18 and it has created opportunities within the premier stable for the young jockey.
With James McDonald, Blake Shinn, Hugh Bowman, Kerrin McEvoy and Tye Angland riding at the Doomben Cup meeting, Avdulla has four rides for Waller on Saturday including Silverball in the $100,000 Lord Mayors Cup.
"He put two wins together and his run (at Flemington) was full of merit," Avdulla said.
"Back to Sydney, up to 2000 metres, if he gets luck from the alley he will run well."
Avdulla's other feature rides at the meeting will be divided between Gerald Ryan and Gai Waterhouse.
Ryan has been one of Avdulla's biggest supporters and he has booked the jockey for Peace Force in the Darley Crown as well as Skyclad, a promising two-year-old.
"I really think Skyclad could be one of my best rides all day," Avdulla said.
"He hasn't trialled but he's a promising horse and I'm pretty confident he'll get through the wet."
Avdulla will replace Shinn on Waterhouse's last-start midweek winner Eisenhower in the Hawkesbury Guineas.
