Trainer Kelly Schweida is perplexed by the huge difference in bookmakers' odds between Cape Kidnappers and favourite Our Boy Malachi in the Group One BTC Cup at Doomben.
Our Boy Malachi is as short as $3.20 with many corporate bookmakers while $41 is available about Cape Kidnappers in Saturday's 1200m sprint.
Cape Kidnappers and Our Boy Malachi were both unplaced in the Listed Bribie Handicap at Doomben in May last year with Our Boy Malachi fifth and Cape Kidnappers close behind him in seventh place.
"Really there hasn't been much between them all along the way. I know Our Boy Malachi has gone on to win four races in Sydney," Schweida said.
"But don't forget my bloke went on from the Doomben defeat to win the Lightning Handicap and finished second in the Healy Stakes."
"Cape Kidnappers had no luck in the summer and his first-up second was good in fast time.
"I think we pulled the right rein by not running him at the Gold Coast from a wide barrier in the Victory Stakes."
Our Boy Malachi has won 17 and been second once from 19 starts while Cape Kidnappers is a nine-time winner and-six time minor placegetter from 17 starts.
Schweida scratched both Cape Kidnappers and Miss Cover Girl from the Gold Coast meeting because of adverse draws.
A last-start Randwick winner, Miss Cover Girl runs in the Mick Dittman Plate.
"We also scratched her from the Gold Coast and she has come up with a much better barrier (six) this time," he said.
"She should be hard to beat from there."
Schweida said his big worry was New Zealand filly Shees Flawless who has been an impressive winner at her past three starts.
"It is hard to line up kiwi form against ours but she does seem smart," he said.
