Tony McEvoy has chosen to forgive and forget Kourkam's most recent country Cup performance and has reason to believe he can bounce back at Scone.

Kourkam finished last as one of the most favoured runners in the Wagga Wagga Gold Cup on May 1 but the trainer said extensive tests had failed to show any problems and he was putting it all down to the firm track.

Kourkam was always wide from gate 13 and did not stretch out as he had at his previous start when he powered home to win the Albury Cup.

He will be joined by stablemate Evangelist in Friday's $200,000 Listed Scone Cup (1600m), the feature race on the first day of the two-day carnival.

"He's had no problems since and is as perfect as he was going into his last two starts," McEvoy said.

"All we can put it down to is the firm track. He just didn't stretch out.

"He's a French horse and he's used to softer ground so I can forgive him that run."

Former English horse Evangelist had the opposite problem when he beat just one runner home at Doomben on April 11 in the Listed Tails Stakes.

"He is a horse who needs a good track," McEvoy said.

"I took him to Brisbane and they put the track up as a good 3 but because of all the sand in it, it raced as if it was soft and that didn't suit him.

"They will both go to Scone in good order with Jason Collett to ride Evangelist and Brenton Avdulla will be on Kourkam."

There were 21 entries taken on Monday for the Cup with the Chris Waller-trained Flamingo Star the highest rated on 105, one point higher than veteran Monton from the Ron Quinton stable.

Flamingo Star is a former German horse with a win over Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist on his resume when they were both two-year-olds.

He was scheduled to have his first Australian start in the Hawkesbury Cup on May 2 but the meeting was washed out and he was instead given a barrier trial on Friday.

Waller has also nominated Strawberry Boy for the Cup while Godolphin has three entries - Malice, Medcaut and San Diego.
