A pedigree that suggests Fast Approaching will be suited over more ground has shone through in her maiden city win at Caulfield.
Victory in the Catanach's Jewellers Handicap (1400m) completed a hat-trick for the daughter of New Approach after wins at Bendigo and Geelong.
Trainer Mark Kavanagh said the three-year-old had continually improved but he was reluctant to step the filly up in distance just yet.
Ridden by Patrick Moloney, Fast Approaching ($3.50) was headed in the straight by Easy Flyer ($18) before fighting back to score by a head with Go Jennio ($7.50) 1-1/4 lengths away third.
Kavanagh said he had no ambitious plans for Fast Approaching at this stage and would be guided by what the handicapper does with the filly.
"She's going through her grades and we just have to be careful with what happens with the handicapper, but we've certainly got to aim a little higher," Kavanagh said.
"She's bred to go a lot further but with the way she's racing at the moment, I'm not really that keen to step her out.
"Off a solid pace today she showed she's a good finisher."
Moloney said the filly switched off when he wanted but showed a lot of fight in the straight after being headed.
"She's a real fighter with an attitude," Moloney said.
"She came out and met that horse and really wanted to race to the line.
"She's a real winner."
