Damian Browne has won some of the biggest races in Australia but admits he got a special thrill from Index Linked's Caloundra Cup victory.
Browne gave Index Linked ($3.40) a perfect run and the horse outstayed Escado ($7) to win the 2400m Listed race by a half head.
Browne, who counts the Blue Diamond Stakes and New Zealand Karaka Million among his wins this year, leads the Sunshine Coast jockeys premiership by 15 winners with 45 for the season.
"I love this place. They say I know every blade of grass on the track and they might be right," Browne said.
"I live just over the hill and there is one traffic light between me and the track. I get dirty when that light is red.
"It gave me a special thrill to win this race a few years back on Zennista (2013) and this gives me an equal thrill."
He said his biggest worry had been Index Linked's weight of 59kg over 2400m.
"But I had an easy run for the first part of the race and I thought we would win by three in the straight," he said.
"But the other horse (Escado) fought on well and the 59 kilograms started to tell. It was a good staying effort."
Index Linked gave trainer Chris Waller a feature double after he took out the Group Three Sunshine Coast Guineas with Winx.
Luke Nolen, who rode Escado, said his mount had refused to give in but Index Linked had been too strong.
