Pride and Beasley shine in Dark Jewel

Divertire's win in the Group Three Dark Jewel Classic has been a race of firsts for trainer Joe Pride and jockey Danny Beasley.

The mare gave Sydney trainer Pride his first win at Scone. For Beasley, Saturday's Group Three win was his first since he returned to Australia after 7-1/2 seasons in Singapore.

Calming Influence had a two length lead at the 200 metres and looked set to win until Divertire flashed down the outside to win won by a length.

"Divertire was jogging in the run and knowing what I know about Joe's horses I knew she would explode when I asked her for an effort," Beasley said.

"And explode she did."

Beasley, who turns 40 next month, returned to Australia after officials in Singapore refused to renew his licence for this year.

The jockey took a break and resumed riding at the recent Wagga carnival.

"I had ten rides over both days at Wagga, seven at Rosehill and some of those had good form but had no luck and a couple over both days here but it's good to get my first winner since coming back, Beasley said.

"When I went away the Scone carnival was over one day and nothing like this.

"I am a country boy and made a point of riding at country meetings including a lot of meetings here at Scone."

Pride said having his first winner at Scone had to be put into perspective.

"I only have runners here at the carnival each year, he said.

He said had brought Divertire back from her break with no specific plan.

"I didn't know at the time she would be running in the Dark Jewel," Pride said.

"I accepted without a jockey then Danny's manager started hassling me for the ride. I asked him if Danny had ridden a winner since he got back and the manager replied he had only been back riding for ten days.

"Danny and I go back a fair way. He rode quite a few winners for me before he went away so I said he could have the ride and it was a good ride."

Pride has no idea where Divertire's next run will be.

"I will probably take her back to Sydney then we might go to Brisbane," he said.

"She is a Group Three winner now so there is only way to go. We have to keep going forward with her.
