Hampton Court, record-breaking G1 winner by Redoute’s Choice, to Spendthrift Australia

Monday 18 May 2015, 11:04am

Hampton Court, Redoute’s Choice’s track record-breaking winner of this season’s Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, has been retired and will stand the 2015 breeding season at the new Spendthrift Australia in Victoria.

Hampton Court becomes the first colonial horse announced to stand at Spendthrift Australia, and the regally-bred three-year-old colt will participate in the farm’s renowned Share The Upside Program at a fee of $11,000 Inc GST. He will also be offered at $8,800 Inc GST on a standard live foal contract in 2015.

“We are thrilled to be able to stand Hampton Court at Spendthrift Australia in our inaugural season,” said B. Wayne Hughes, owner of Spendthrift Australia. “It was important for us to bring in a colonial horse that will be exciting for breeders.  He’s a record-breaking, Group 1-winning son of sire of sires Redoute’s Choice, and we’re looking forward to sharing him with the Australian breeders through our Share The Upside Program.”

A $500,000 Australia Easter yearling purchase by International Bloodstock agent John Warren, Hampton Court placed on debut behind future multiple Group 1 and Group 2 winner Brazen Beau, before becoming a winner as a two-year-old. This season at three, Hampton Court won the Dulcify Handicap, defeating stakes horses Bachman, Scratch Me Lucky and Thunder Lady. Just one week later, he went on to score his biggest career triumph in the form of a 2.3-length win in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, setting a new track record at Royal Randwick and defeating Group 1 winner First Seal, along with Group winners Valentia, Panzer Division, and Sweynesse.

By Redoute's Choice, Hampton Court is out of the stakes-winning Broken Vow (US) mare Roses 'n' Wine (CAN), and he hails from the female family of champion race mare Makybe Diva, sale topper and Group 2 winner Musket, and stakes winners Valkyrie Diva and La Amistad. Trained by Gai Waterhouse, Hampton Court retires sound with earnings of $398,230.

Share The Upside is a straightforward, breeder-friendly program. There are a limited number of opportunities per stallion, and the offer is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Breeders can secure a spot with a $275 Inc GST one-time deposit, and then sign two stands and nurses contracts to breed a mare in 2015 and 2016. Once two foals have been produced and the stud fees have been paid on both live foals, the breeder earns a lifetime breeding right starting as early as the 2017 breeding season. The breeding right continues annually and throughout the breeding life of the stallion, and there are no further expenses to the breeder.
