Apprentice Jack Martin taken to hospital

Monday 18 May 2015, 6:18pm

Victorian apprentice Jack Martin has a suspected broken jaw after he came off a horse on the way to the starting gates at Moe.

The Victorian Jockeys' Association said Martin was taken to LaTrobe Valley Hospital with a possible jaw injury and general observation after the incident on Monday.

Meanwhile, senior jockey Mark Pegus' recent good form has been halted after he suffered a broken collarbone in a trackwork fall at Kilmore on Monday.

The 36-year-old returned to riding earlier this year after suffering a badly broken arm at the Cairns Cup meeting in August.

He was out of the saddle for five months after having a plate and nine screws inserted in his forearm.

NSW rider Mitchell Bell will undergo surgery after breaking a hand in a fall at Scone on Saturday.

The fall in the second race cost Bell the win on Artlee in the Listed Luskin Star Stakes.
