Goulburn trainer Kurt Goldman is planning another winter carnival raid with Faust after an all-the-way win in the Premier's Cup at Doomben.
Ridden by James McDonald, Faust ($5.50) held off a challenge from Baligari ($5) to win by a long neck with Jetset Lad ($17) 1-1/4 lengths away third.
Goldman gave Faust a stint in the spelling paddock after the gelding finished second in the Wagga Wagga Gold Cup and plans a similar preparation leading up to his next Queensland goal.
"He'll go back home on Monday night for a week in the paddock then come back here in three weeks time for the Tattersall's Cup at the Gold Coast," Goldman said.
"It's been well documented he's been in work a long time but he's had a few trips to the paddock to have a break between runs and I'm just getting to know the horse."
Goldman said didn't pin down McDonald with instructions.
"With the small field it was always going to be tricky from where he was drawn but I left it all up to James and he worked it out well," Goldman said.
McDonald said Faust was a progressive type who was ideally suited to a winter Cups campaign.
"The horse is flying and has a real sense of timing about him," he said.
"It was a tough effort to lead all the way after he drew a sticky gate but he's pulled up in great order so he's in for a good prep."
Vilanova ($9) was rated unlucky by jockey Kerrin McEvoy after he was checked in the straight before finishing sixth.
Hvasstan, the $3.90 favourite, drew the rails barrier but was caught three deep without cover before dropping out in the straight to finish last.
