Marc Conners usually heads to Kembla Grange or Newcastle on a Saturday but his confidence in Coys has led him to Randwick with the desired result.
The youngster was a market drifter from $5 to $10 in the 2YO Plate (1200m) with punters throwing their weight behind Skyclad who was backed from $2.90 to $2.40.
Coys was worse than midfield early and in the straight Josh Parr took him along the rail which he admitted was not ideal on the wet track but the gelding surged to the line to beat So Willie ($6) by half a length.
Skyclad finished another long neck third.
"He put the writing on the wall with his second at Canterbury last time and I was confident coming here today," Conners said.
"I knew he would handle the wet track.
"He is a lovely horse who will be a better three-year-old. What he is doing at two is just on raw ability.
"A winner is a winner anywhere and I'm happy to go to Kembla but I knew he was up to this."
By Dylan Thomas out of She's Sirius, Coys is raced by his breeder Mark Geraghty who is a dedicated fan of the English Premier League team Tottenham Hotspurs.
"Mark is a massive fan and that's where the names come from," Conners said. "Coys means `Come on you Spurs'."
Parr said he was governed by the gelding's momentum.
"There is a different art riding on wet tracks compared to dry tracks," he said.
"It is all about momentum. You can't afford to be stopping and starting on these heavy tracks.
"He was getting through the ground well and he had a nice, clear run on the inside so I was happy to take it."
