Ciaron Maher says Srikandi will strip a fitter racemare for the Stradbroke Handicap after her unplaced effort when favourite in the Doomben 10,000.
Maher said Srikandi appeared to pull up well enough following her sixth placing behind Boban after she hit the front at the 300m.
Maher said he had been easy on the daughter of Dubawi after she jumped awkwardly when finishing eighth in the BTC Cup on May 9.
"She didn't miss any work but I could have worked her a fraction harder, so I just think she will improve," Maher said.
Srikandi is an $18 chance for the Stradbroke in which she has 53kg.
Unless handicaps are raised, Maher will need to find a new jockey for the mare because Damian Browne, who has ridden her in three runs this campaign, struggles with his weight.
"I just think the handicap conditions and the run under the belt will be better for her," Maher said.
"She had a bit of a blow and she wanted to get out a fraction in the straight whereas normally she wants to lay in.
"We've done a blood test and a scope and we'll see what the results are with them, but on face value she seems OK."
