David Hayes has declined the offer to gallop Criterion with California Chrome in a work-out at Ascot ahead of their clash at the Royal meeting.
The trainer will fly to England this weekend to oversee the next stage of Criterion's build-up to the Prince Of Wales's Stakes on June 17.
Criterion galloped overnight on the all-weather Al Bahathri track at Newmarket under Chad Schofield and will head to Ascot for a gallop on Tuesday with Frankie Dettori in the saddle.
"They wanted us to work with California Chrome but I'll race him in the race," Hayes said.
"We're giving Criterion a bit of atmosphere by taking him from Newmarket to Ascot.
"It's a simulated day out a bit over two weeks before his grand final."
Dettori, who is also scheduled to partner American California Chrome in his gallop on Tuesday, has been offered the ride on Criterion at Royal Ascot.
Hayes said if Dettori declined the ride it was likely to go to Craig Williams who rode Criterion to victory in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.
Depending on his performance at Royal Ascot, Criterion may also head to the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood in August.
His participation in the Melbourne spring carnival will depend on whether Hayes is successful in his application to Racing Victoria to open the quarantine station at Werribee earlier than normal.
Hayes said he wanted to bring Criterion home for a shot at the Cox Plate and then run him in either the Melbourne Cup or head back to Hong Kong in December.
Owner Sir Owen Glenn also has the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in October as a goal.
"If he wins at Ascot, the Arc's tempting," Hayes said.
"I understand Sir Owen would interested in the Arc because it's often a wet track.
"He could then go Arc, Japan Cup. But if he comes home it would be the Cox Plate and if he didn't run in the Melbourne Cup he would go to Hong Kong."
Hayes said Criterion spiked a temperature after arriving at Newmarket but his blood picture was back to normal.
